PORTAL Project

Supporting Olympians
transitioning to real life

Support athletes in concern on their mental health

OUR MAIN PILLARS

Supporting Olympians during their transition to post-retirement life

Dedicated to providing face-to-face support to Olympians throughout their transition journey
Through the PORTAL online platform that will actively promote common values, civic engagement and participation, as well as promote education in and through sport.

Establishing a network of Real-Life Transitioning Officers

OUR MISSION

The PORTAL project is more than just a website; it’s a dedicated online platform committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse community for Olympians. We specifically focus on supporting those who face fewer opportunities

Olympians without medals

Recognizing that success isn't solely defined by podium finishes

Former athletes with physical and mental health issues

Providing resources and support for their unique challenges.

Former athletes lacking financial support and employment opportunities

Connecting them with career-building resources and networks.

Athletes with limited educational backgrounds or early school-leavers:

Offering pathways to further education and skill development.

Join the PORTAL Community

The PORTAL programme aims to engage at least 150 Olympic athletes (both active and retired) who will actively use the platform and work with our resolute Real Life Transitioning Officers. By joining the PORTAL project, Olympians can navigate their post-athletic careers with confidence, equipped with the resources and support they need to thrive.

Key Objectives

A Strategic Approach to Olympian Support

Needs Analysis and Research

We will conduct a thorough study in France, Romania, Croatia, North Macedonia, and Italy to understand the current challenges faced by Olympians. This research will inform the development of our programs and resources.

Open Platform for Athletes

Our platform will serve as a central hub where Olympians can access resources, discover new opportunities, and connect with fellow athletes. This community-driven approach will ease the transition by fostering a sense of belonging and mutual support.

Mental Health & Transition Toolkits

We will design specialized toolkits to support Olympians' mental health and guide them through the transition process. We will also define the crucial role of "Real Life Transitioning Officers" to provide personalized guidance.

Pilot Program Launch

In collaboration with National Olympic Committees, we will launch a pilot program to test and refine our platform and services.

Training for Transitioning Officers

We will develop comprehensive procedures and training materials for our Real-Life Transitioning Officers, equipping them with the skills to effectively support athletes.
